What Inspires You?

What inspires you? I get this question all the time and sometimes I think to myself, “what doesn’t inspire me?” Inspiration is everywhere you just have to channel it into whatever you are trying to create. I find inspiration in the most random and sometimes mundane things. I may be in Homegoods searching for the perfect lamp and a small floral arrangement catches my eye because of the unexpected color combination. On many occasions this sort of discovery has prompted the color combination of an entire collection!

So, since I am not known for being incredibly organized, I learned early on in starting this business that I HAD to take notes. I have a running notepad on my phone and it goes with me everywhere. It is even next to me when I sleep. You never know what you may come up with in your sleep! Or even when you are laying there trying to sleep with a million things running through your head on the usual mom “to do list”. That is actually when I can up with both of the names for my two collections, Mustard Pie and Jak & Peppar. You never know when inspiration may strike!

My daughter for example was playing dress up in some of my “pretties” one day when she was about 4 years old. She was being funny and pulled our Kenzington Skirt up under her armpits and twirled around in it. It looked so cute I thought to myself “Why can’t this amazing skirt be a fabulous twirl top too?!” And with that we now have the Laney Swing Top which doubles as a skirt and swing top. I absolutely LOVE finding ways for moms to get two different uses out of one item. After all, I know people spend a lot of money on my creations and I want them to get the best bang for their buck!

So the moral of the story? Write it down! No idea is insignificant. You never know when the opportunity to use it may come up so get it in a notebook! It took me 4 years from the time I decided on the name Jak & Peppar to decide what it was actually going to be, but because I wrote it down, I had it ready to go when I needed it! I hope you find some inspiration today and if you do please write it down;)
